Tonight all the nominees for the 2026 GRAMMY Awards were announced, and Bohuslän Big Band and Danilo Pérez are nominated in the category “Best Large Ensemble Jazz Album” for their joint album “Lumen”.

The album Lumen is a genre-defying fusion of Nordic jazz traditions and Latin American rhythms. It reflects both Bohuslän Big Band’s stylistic range and Pérez’s innovative compositions. The album was released last year and now has the chance to take home a GRAMMY in the category “Best Large Ensemble Jazz Album”

“Our collaboration with Danilo Pérez is something we are very happy and proud of, and the fact that it has now resulted in a Grammy nomination feels absolutely incredible,” says Eric Brandström-Arellano, head of production and planning for Bohuslän Big Band.

Lumenbubbles over with the joy of playing. The freely soaring improvisation between Danilo Pérez’s piano and Joakim Rolandsson’s soprano sax on “Lumen”, the beautiful flugelhorn solo by Staffan Svensson on “Across the Crystal Sea”, and not least the final two minutes of “Sunburn & Mosquito” are all examples of a musical encounter out of the ordinary.

“This project is very close to my heart. The idea was born during the COVID-19 pandemic, a time that challenged us all, and its release is proof of the commitment, creativity, and spirit of everyone who made this Global Jazz vision a reality,” says Danilo Pérez himself about the album.

Close collaboration with Danilo Pérez

Bohuslän Big Band has had a long and close collaboration with Danilo Pérez. Among other things, he has been Artist in Residence at Vara Concert Hall and with Bohuslän Big Band, and has performed with the big band both in Sweden and internationally. In January, Bohuslän Big Band was invited by Danilo Pérez to take part in Panama Jazz Festival, and next week the big band is heading to the prestigious festival Guimarães Jazz in Portugal together with Danilo.

“This is an international collaboration that we are incredibly happy about, and a musical relationship that continues to this day. It is so inspiring to see Danilo and his artistic vision, creativity, generosity, and incredible commitment to the project,” says Eric Brandström-Arellano.

The GRAMMY Awards ceremony will take place on February 1, 2026, in Los Angeles.
