Tour with Daniel Boyacioglu and Mathias Landæus this autumn

The power of the big band meets spoken word and poetry when Bohuslän Big Band goes on tour this autumn together with poet and performer Daniel Boyacioglu and jazz pianist Mathias Landæus! The tour is titled “This Time” and will stop in Vara, Lund, Linköping, Gothenburg, Upplands Väsby and Stockholm.
“This Time” is a concert that moves straight into the cracks and contexts of the present. Taking Daniel Boyacioglu’s poetic texts as its starting point, it reflects on questions of identity, belonging, love and power – where the personal is inextricably intertwined with the political. It is a contemplation of the now, marked by vulnerability and resistance, where anger, tenderness, humour and prayer exist side by side. Together with Mathias Landæus’s sensitive improvisations and Bohuslän Big Band’s powerful soundscapes, the words become both fragile and monumental – like a collective attempt to understand this time, while we are living in it.
“This is a collaboration that feels unique. In this production, the text is central, which is great fun to relate to as a musician, but also quite unusual. Productions that push the boundaries a bit often create something interesting. I’m very happy about this,” says Linus Lindblom, saxophonist in Bohuslän Big Band.
The music is based on Daniel Boyacioglu’s and the Mathias Landæus Trio’s album Prayer for the World and Love Us Now, but here it takes on completely new dimensions in arrangements for big band.
“I hope people will feel and appreciate that there is a dedication in both the lyrics and the music – and that the whole becomes something unique,” Linus continues.
This is not the first time the big band has teamed up with Daniel Boyacioglu and Mathias Landæus.
“We did this concert during Vara Concert Hall’s 20th anniversary a few years ago, and it was so appreciated by both the audience and the musicians that we decided we simply had to do it again. It’s great fun that we can now take this production on tour,” says program and planning manager Eric Brandström-Arellano.
Tickets go on sale today at 10:00 AM and can be booked via the Swedish site of bohuslanbigband.com/sv.
