Today the single "Lester Leaps In" is released
Today, on September 26, Bohuslän Big Band is releasing the single Lester Leaps In from the upcoming album Shades of Gil Evans which will be released in October. In connection with the album release, Bohuslän Big Band will also give concerts at Skeppet in Gothenburg and at Vara Konserthus.
The upcoming album is a tribute to the American jazz pianist, arranger, and composer Gil Evans. Evans is one of jazz’s greatest innovators – an orchestral pioneer who drew inspiration from classical composers such as Ravel and Debussy, and created an entirely new sound. His influence can still be heard today in artists like Maria Schneider, Vince Mendoza, and Quincy Jones.
Evans was a key figure in reshaping the sound world of jazz, not least through his legendary collaboration with trumpeter Miles Davis on albums such as Birth of the Cool (1957), Miles Ahead (1957), and Sketches of Spain (1960). With his innovative arrangements, he forged an entirely new path for big band jazz.
Concerts in connection with the album release
For those who want to hear Bohuslän Big Band play Gil Evans’ music live, there are two more chances – 22 October at Skeppet in Gothenburg and 23 October at Vara Concert Hall.
The album Shades of Gil Evans will be released digitally on October 17. The single Lester Leaps In is already available to listen to via digital music services.
