Born in 1959 and raised in Hovenäset in Bohuslän on the Swedish west coast. Mikael Karlsson started playing the piano at the age of 10. He was educated at the Academy of Music in Gothenburg.

What are your musical inspirations?
– The musical inspiration comes from Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Michael Brecker, Steely Dan, Michael Franks, Elis Regina and many others.
How long have you played with Bohuslän Big Band?
“I’ve been playing with the big band since 1990.”
What is your best memory with Bohuslän Big Band?
– It’s the latest tour we did to Japan.
