Christer Olofsson
Trombone
Born in 1968 and raised in Lysekil, Bohuslän, the Swedish west coast. Like so many others, Christer Olofsson began his musical journey by playing the recorder when he was 8 years old. The following year came piano and electric organ. He discovered the trombone at the age of 14. In addition to attending the music school in Lysekil, he took private lessons with Bengt-Åke Andersson, who was a trombonist in the Bohuslän Big Band until 2001. He then studied at the Ingesund College of Music, focusing on the Afro-American tradition. Over the years he has also done a great deal of freelance work and performed in various bands.
Three questions for Christer Olofsson
What are your musical inspirations?
– Above all jazz and classical music. But all good music is inspiring. My first major musical inspiration was an LP with Count Basie's big band that I bought when I joined a record club.
How long have you played in Bohuslän Big Band?
“I got my position in 1991, but I had been in and working as a substitute since 1985.”
What is your best memory with Bohuslän Big Band?
– Really hard to say – there are so many good memories. I of course remember the first time we played with Bob Mintzer and Maria Schneider, and also our first tour to China and Japan.
